Measles and rubella are both viral infections that can cause a rash. However, there are several differences between the rashes that are associated with each of these illnesses.

The viral envelope is sensitive to detergents (including alcohol), heat, and desiccation. Enveloped viruses have poor survivability outside of the host in environ and are easier to control in healthcare environments than non-enveloped viruses.
